# SUMMER HEATWAVE: Scorching Scores, Solo Masterclasses, and a New King Seizes the Throne! ☀️🔥🏌️♂️
The thermostat wasn't the only thing hitting triple digits this week. Week 9 at Crestwood was absolute chaos on the back nine, defined by blistering summer heat, lopsided blowouts, a massive shakeup at the top of the standings, and some individual carry jobs that belong in the league history books. When the dust settled and the point money was distributed, the defending champs were forced to yield the throne, a new leader ascended, and a couple of solo flyers had nights they won't soon forget. Let’s dive into the action! 🪓
Playing without your partner isn't automatically a death sentence—it's the ultimate make-or-break gamble depending on whether you bring your 'A' game or fall apart. Safe to say, Will Cotter and Frank Gentile Jr. caught pure lightning in a bottle, turning their solo appearances into absolute dual-card clinics.
The Cotter Show 🌟: With Jake Lyman out, Will Cotter threw down a career performance. Cotter fired a career-best and night-low gross score of 38, needing a microscopic 12 putts to get it done. His insane night officially vaults him into the league's #1 spot for Best Putting Average at a blistering 15.3 putts per round! He was an absolute buzzsaw, securing 19.5 of a possible 24 points completely solo against Todd Allen and Jon Hazeltine.
The Streak Grows 🚂: Frank Gentile Jr. was also flying solo with Michael Gentile away, and he absolutely capitalized on a rough night from his opponents. Frank Jr. cruised to a 20–4 blowout, racked up a massive 11.5 individual match points (setting a new season high for most individual points in a single matchup), and extended his mind-boggling win streak to 8 consecutive matches!

THE CRESTWEED CLASSIC: Scramble Chaos, Hot Putters, and Cash Money on the Front Nine! 🌿🔥
The tension was palpable, the stakes were doubled, and the drama was at an all-time high for Week 8’s highly anticipated Mid-Year Special Event: the Crestweed Classic!
With the field switching up the format to a two-man scramble and turning its attention to the treacherous front nine at Crestwood, teams were out for blood.
When the dust settled and the divots were replaced, over 228 bucks in cold hard cash had changed hands, divisional rivalries ignited, and the race for the crown grew even tighter. 🏆
MATCHUP OF THE WEEK: The Clash of the Titans ⚔️
All eyes were locked on the marquee matchup of the night: a brutal #1 vs #2 standings clash featuring the defending champions Matwijec / Sreca taking on the relentless hunt of Gagnon / Gannon.
The Coup at the Top 📉: The headline of the night was the subtle coup at the very peak of the standings. Defending champions Matwijec / Sreca locked into a gritty, hard-fought 12–12 draw against a resilient Pomeroy / Woodlan team. While a tie is respectable, the rest of the field moved so fast that the champs slipped 4 spots down the standings from #1 to #5.
Clear Skies Ahead ☀️: Seizing the crown were Dave Gagnon & Tom Gannon, who took 18.5 points off Jeff Sergott & Josh Lamb. Both players posted absolutely stellar rounds, highlighted by Tom Gannon firing a legendary, season-best low net of 24! When a team puts up scores that hot, the forecast completely changes. You can go ahead and pack away the storm prep and take down the sandbags—with clear skies and scorching momentum like this, Gagnon / Gannon are officially sailing into sole possession of first place by 2.5 points.
Other Notable Battles: Matt Smaldon & Jon Hazeltine put together a spectacular night, taking 17 points off Shawn Hughes & Frank Acquaviva, fueling a huge 3-spot surge up the standings from #9 to #6. Meanwhile, Eric Kasper & Joe Firley took 16 points off Jim Miglin & Chris Brillante, and Ryan Bates & Chad Miller secured a strong 17.5 points against Brandon Allen & Matt Sreca.
The league saw a wave of "Redless Rounds" on Monday night, with several players keeping their scorecards perfectly clean of double bogeys or worse:
Joe Firley and Ryan Bates both notched their second redless round of the season!
Also carding an impressive, blemish-free redless round on the night were Will Cotter, Eric Kasper, Frank Gentile Jr., and Nick Matwijec!
Milestone Update: Mike Sreca has officially joined Pat Beckwith and Ryan Bates in the All-Green Club, meaning he is now out-pacing his entire performance from last year across every major statistical category.
Eight birdies hit the card on the back nine to push the season total to 43, with league-leader Ryan Bates maintaining his throne atop the individual world rankings and keeping his league-leading birdie/eagle count moving forward to 6 on the year.
Skinny Dipping: Four skins were snatched at $7.50 per. Matt Smaldon grabbed one on Hole 11, Jon Hazeltine took Hole 14, and Will Cotter put the exclamation point on his historic night by sweeping two skins on Holes 16 and 18.
Pin Hunter: Jon Hazeltine walked away with the night's single biggest cash payout, stuffing a crisp $30 into his wallet for striking an absolute dart that landed just 5 feet, 4 inches from the cup to win Closest to the Pin on Hole 14. He confirmed with the birdie/skin.
We have to send a collective thoughts-and-prayers out to Josh Lamb. On the par-5 15th, Lamb hit an absolute seed to reach the green in two strokes. Standing over an eagle opportunity... he proceeded to four-putt for a bogey. Someone please check on this man, and please get him a new flat stick before next Monday. 🙈😂
The drama heads right into the mid-July stretch. Can Gagnon / Gannon hold the top spot? Will the defending champs bounce back from the #5 slot?
See you on the tee box! 🏌️♂️💨
True to their championship pedigree, Nick Matwijec & Mike Sreca proved exactly why they wear the crowns, fending off the challengers with a gritty 14–10 victory. With that statement win, the defending champs maintain their vice grip on first place, sitting comfortably 3 points up on the entire field.
The Demolition Crew:Todd Allen / John Hazeltine absolutely dismantled Cotter / Lyman in the night’s most lopsided affair, walking away with a staggering 20–4 blowout. Even with a sub filling in for Will Cotter, it wouldn't have mattered—Allen and Hazeltine were unconscious on the greens, carding an absurdly low 11 putts on the round. That's a masterclass! 🤯
The Stalemate: In stark contrast, Firley / Kasper and Bates / Miller went toe-to-toe in a literal heavyweight slugfest, splitting the night dead even at 12–12. Neither side refused to blink, letting everyone know that every single half-point has to be earned out here.
STANDINGS SHAKEUP: Cruising & Bruising 🎢
The Crestweed Classic injected pure chaos into the leaderboard:
The Rocket Ship 🚀: Gentile / Gentile Jr. are officially the hottest tandem in the league. They surged two spots up the standings from #8 to #6, fueled by Frank Gentile Jr., who is currently riding a blistering 7-match win streak!
The Free Fall 📉: On the flip side, it was a disastrous night for Pomeroy / Woodlan. They slipped three spots, tumbling violently out of the top five all the way down to #8. They’ll need to find answers, and fast.
If you weren't hunting pins, you weren't hunting money.
The Dart Thrower 🎯: Frank Acquaviva walked off the course with the night’s heaviest wallet, stuffing 30 bucks into his pocket after knocking his tee shot under 6 feet to easily secure the Closest to the Pin on Hole 6.
Team Skins Showdown 🛡️: Instead of solo efforts, the scramble format demanded teamwork to take home the hardware. Three squads successfully hunted down skins on the front nine:
Money Bags 🤑: Despite the shifting weekly payouts, Shawn Hughes remains the undisputed King of the Cash, sitting comfortably atop the season money list with a cool 144 bucks collected.
No time to celebrate, no time to lick your wounds. Week 9 is right around the corner, and the schedule makers cooked up absolute fireworks. Can Pomeroy and Woodlan stop the bleeding against the red-hot champs? Will the Gentile train keep rolling?
The Week 9 Slate:
See you on the tee box. 🏌️♂️💨

⛳ BELOW PAR GOLF LEAGUE: WEEK 7 RECAP ⛳
What a night of golf. Week 7 brought elite putting, clutch birdies, and major shifts in both the team and individual leaderboards. If you thought this season was going to be a runaway, think again—the races are officially tighter than a new pair of golf shoes.
🌟 The Sreca Masterclass
The round of the night undoubtedly belonged to Mike Sreca, who fired a stellar double-bogey-free 38. Mike was locked in from tee to green, highlighting his night with a birdie on #15 and rolling a microscopic 14 putts.
With that performance, Mike joins an elite group. He is now officially "All Green" alongside Pat Beckwith and Ryan Bates.
Speaking of Ryan Bates, he put on an absolute clinic of his own, carding a brilliant 39. Bates weaponized his flatstick to tie the low putt round of the night (14 putts) and circled three birdies on his scorecard (Holes 10, 15, and 18).
The greens were friendly for a select few in Week 7. Four players tied for the lowest putting round of the night with just 14 putts:
Mike Sreca, Matt Smaldon, Ryan Bates, and Jim Miglin
We saw 7 total birdies drop across the league in Week 7, bringing our season total to 35 birdies or better.
Hole 10: Ryan Bates, Brandon Allen
Hole 12 (CTP): Matt Sreca stuck his tee shot to 14.5 feet to take home the Closest-to-the-Pin cash! He now sits tied with Shawn Hughes for the most CTP wins this season.
Hole 15: Ryan Bates, Mike Sreca, Pat Beckwith, Jake Lyman (Clearly the hole to play this week!)
Hole 18: Ryan Bates 💥
💰 The Lone Skin: Thanks to that clutch birdie on #18, Ryan Bates walked away with the only skin of the night! That 3-birdie explosion also officially leapfrogged Ryan into the league lead for total birdies on the year, though Pat Beckwith is breathing down his neck just 1 back.
📊 History Watch: Will the Records Fall? With 35 birdies through 7 weeks, the league is tracking well, but the historical records are steep mountain peaks:
Do we have enough firepower in the tank over the coming weeks to shatter the Crestwood record? Time will tell!
🤫 The Silent Assassin Don't look now, but Frank Gentile is on an absolute tear. After dropping his Week 1 match, Frank has rattled off 6 straight wins to take the sole lead in the league wins category with a 6-1 record.
👥 Team Standings: A 10-Point Blanket The battle for the team crown is a total logjam. Dave Gagnon & Tom Gannon hold the narrowest of leads with 97 points. Sitting just one point behind are the defending champions, Mike Sreca & Nick Matwijec (96 points).
How close is the rest of the pack? Only 10 points total separate 1st place from 8th place. Every single hole matters right now.
👤 Individual Points Race Ben Woodlan is clinging to the top spot with 54 points, but a pack of hungry chasers is within striking distance:
🦩 Best Putting Average
If you think the point races are tight, look at the putting averages. Shawn Hughes leads the league with a 15.4 average, but look at the traffic jam right behind him:
Week 8 brings us the Crestweed Mid-Year Event which is a scramble format. Below are the matchups along with handicaps.
See you all on the tee for Week 8. Keep it below par!

Gagnon / Gannon Reclaim The Lead As Standings Shake Up
On what felt like a fall evening in the middle of June, that stretched into one of the longest golf nights of the year, Gagnon / Gannon rolled to a 16–8 drubbing of Pomeroy / Woodlan and vaulted in to first place, holding a one-point edge over defending champions Matwijec / Sreca, who crushed Hazeltine / Smaldon 16.5–7.5 behind a 9.5-point night from Mike Sreca. Todd Allen torched the front nine with low gross (41), low putts (13), and a birdie on the par-4 fifth, notching 8.5 points in the process, while Nick Matwijec posted the week's low net of 31 and Eric Kasper stuffed his approach to 11.5 inches on the par-3 eighth to claim the $30 CTP and collect one of two skins on the night with a birdie—Frank Acquaviva took the other with a birdie four on the par-5 third. The top of the table is suddenly a dogfight: Gagnon / Gannon and Matwijec / Sreca square off next week in a battle of first and second, with Bates / Miller just four points back in third and Firley / Kasper and Pomeroy / Woodlan rounding out a bunched-up top five—the pressure is mounting as the Crestweed Classic approaches in week 8.

Hazeltines Both Birdie, Hughes Edges CTP By An Inch
Under sunny skies on the back nine, Jon Hazeltine nearly aced the par-3 12th—settling for birdie and a skin—while Joe Hazeltine birdied 17 for a skin of his own, part of a five-way skins sweep that saw Shawn Hughes, Todd Allen, and Mike Sreca each claim one as well. Hughes captured the $30 CTP for the second straight week, edging Eric Kasper by less than an inch, while Jim Miglin fired the low net of 28, Frank Gentile Jr. carded low gross 42 (and low putts, 12), and Ryan Bates posted the night's biggest individual haul with 11 points. Frank Gentile Jr. played both cards for the absent Michael Gentile and dragged home 16 of 24 for the Gentiles, while Joe Hazeltine covered Matt Smaldon and brought back 15 of 24 to power Hazeltine / Smaldon to a 15–9 win. Pomeroy / Woodlan held the top spot at 71.5 points, a point and a half clear of Bates / Miller, while Gagnon / Gannon jumped four spots to third after a dominant 17.5–6.5 rout of Allen / Sreca— Perhaps the elevated putting averages (thanks, aerated greens?) kept things tight elsewhere.
Commissioner's Recap
Hughes Makes History With Ace as Pomeroy / Woodlan Seize First Place
Under perfect skies, Shawn Hughes delivered the shot of the season—a hole-in-one on the par-3 sixth, just the fourth ace in league history and an unbreakable CTP mark that headlined a wild Week 4. Hughes carded the night's low gross 44 and collected a skin with his eagle, while Ben Woodlan torched the front nine for low net 34 and Joe Hazeltine needed just 12 putts. Five skins scattered across the card—Jeff Sergott (birdie on 3), Hughes (ace on 6), Todd Allen (7), Eric Kasper (birdie on 8), and Pat Beckwith (birdie on 9). The standings shook up dramatically as Pomeroy / Woodlan stormed from fourth to first with a 19-5 demolition of Allen / Sreca, building a one-point cushion over Beckwith / Dudeck (who posted 15 points behind Kenny Dudeck's 9-point night), while defending champions Matwijec / Sreca slipped to third despite splitting 12-12 with Cotter / Lyman. With Position Week now complete, the race is wide open—and all-time title leaders Kasper and Joe Firley (10) lurk in fifth, just six points off the pace.

Bates Carves a Record-Tying 35; Champs Retake the Throne
History came to the front nine in Week 3. Ryan Bates took apart Crestwood for a 35 — one under par — tying the all-time club record for lowest score to par (−1), matching Eric Kasper's 2016 mark. The card was a clinic: 27 net, just 12 putts, 10 points, with birdies on the 1st and 3rd, hauling Miller/Bates to an 18.5-point rout and rocketing them from eighth all the way to third. Shawn Hughes had the night's other story — a quiet 2-point match, but he birdied the par-3 6th and the 9th to sweep both of the evening's skins. Eric Kasper kept the 10-time champs rolling with a 42 and 9 points, Pat Beckwith birdied the 3rd, and the opening hole got picked clean — Acquaviva, Smaldon, and Firley all birdied the 1st as well. Matt Sreca rescued a rough card by sticking the $30 CTP on the par-3 8th. Atop the board, the defending champions Sreca/Matwijec reclaimed first — and did it shorthanded again, a sub posting 9.5 in Nick Matwijec's place — with Beckwith/Dudeck slipping to second, a point and a half back, and Kasper/Firley holding in the top five. Three weeks in, the champs look like the champs.

Miller's Deuce on 14 Lights Up the Back; Beckwith/Dudeck Surge to First
Week 2 swung to the back nine, and Chad Miller produced the shot of the night — a 2 on the par-3 14th that bagged the $30 CTP and the evening's only skin on a single swing. He had birdie company: Brandon Allen and reigning champ Nick Matwijec each birdied the par-5 15th. Joe Hazeltine posted the low round at 43 / 31 (9.5 points), Ben Woodlan kept humming with the low net of 29, and Mike Sreca and Shawn Hughes shared low putts at 14. The headline number was Pat Beckwith's 11.5 points — covering for an absent Kenny Dudeck and burying Sergott/Lamb 20.5–3.5 to vault Beckwith/Dudeck into first. Jim Miglin pulled the same one-man-band act, filling in for an absent Chris Brillante to lead Miglin/Brillante to an 18–6 win. Beckwith/Dudeck now lead — but the defending champs, Sreca/Matwijec, trail by just a single point, and the 10-time-champion Kasper/Firley slipped a spot to fifth. Two weeks in, the repeat watch is officially open.

Beckwith Leads Opener at 41; Defending Champs Sreca/Matwijec Sprint to the Top
The 2026 campaign opened on the front, and Pat Beckwith set the standard — a field-low 41 gross / 28 net, 9 points, and a birdie on the par-5 3rd. He shared low net (28) with Ben Woodlan, whose 10 points pushed Pomeroy/Woodlan to within a half-point of the lead. With the flat stick, nobody touched Joe Firley — just 11 putts all evening (44/32, 9 points). The birdies turned into cash up top: Brandon Allen (par-5 2nd) and Beckwith (par-5 3rd) cashed the night's two skins and split the pot, while Eric Kasper and Keith Pomeroy both deuced the par-3 8th, their matching twos cancelling out to halve the hole. Ryan Bates stuck it closest on 6 for the $30 CTP. Atop the board sit the defending champions, Sreca/Matwijec — Nick Matwijec carrying it with Mike Sreca out — while the most-decorated duo in club history, 10-time champs Kasper/Firley, opened inside the top four. The title chase is on.
